Now that our beloved Muffy (I believe) is no longer a telemarketer, I have no problems posting this! (Not that I would anyway, but that's not the point...)
I keep getting called by the same telemarketer. Once I joted down their caller ID number, I ran a search on it to find out what goodie goodies I could find. Here's what I found:
1. They're scam artists (I don't know if that's true for all telemarketers, but if it is, then that's no big surprise to anyone but me).
2. The phone number isn't valid. The company transmits an incorrect identifying number. Attempting to call the number back leads to a message saying the number's no longer in service. Interesting.
3. I found their physical and PO Box address and valid (I assume, since I haven't called it since it's long distance) phone number. Also their 800 number and fax.
I've registered my cell phone with www.donotcall.gov. Sadly, I have to wait 31 DAYS!!!!! before it becomes illegal for (most) telemarketers to call me, but my registraion's good for 5 years.
I'm not going to ask them to take me off their list. Not yet. I need to gather more information. Like their name. Granted, through my research, I've gotten their name, but if they become a nuisance, I'm going to need to hear the information from them. According to the Virginia Telephone Privacy Act, they're reqired to give me their first and last name as well as the entity they represent. Once I get that, I'll ask to be removed from their list. I hope they give me hell for it. "It'll take up to 10 days for us to do that!" "Hop to it then, because if I get another call from you guys, you'll be breaking the law, and I'll be contacting the Office of Consumer Affairs."
Hehehe. Let the war begin. Too bad they don't call on the weekends. I'm really anxoius to get this started!
