I lock myself out of my room. I go to the main barracks front desk and ask them to send the building manager my way so I can get back in (usually, they'd just give you a one-shot key card, but since I didn't have my ID on me, the next step is the manager). Well, she winds up giving me a one-shot anyway, which doesn't work. Nor did it the second time. When I returned again, I said, "Just have the manager meet me outside my room, please. This just isn't working," very politely. Well, then the second guy at the counter just had to open his mouth.
He's a second class petty officer (E-5, for the rest of you military-familiar people) while I'm a 3rd class (E-4), so he outranks me. He says, "Hey! This lady was giving you a hook up!"
I go, "I know, and I thanked her for it."
"You don't come in here and make demands!"
"Name one that I've made." (Note: I'm using a polite tone of voice throughout the conversation and he ain't.)
"You said, 'Just have the manager meet me outside my room.'"
"No, I said, 'Just have the manager meet me outside my room, please.' That's not a demand."
"You're suppose to carry your ID on you at all times, according to the UCMJ [Uniform Code of Military Justice], right?"
"I'm suppose to have my wallet on me at all times, too." Inside I'm thinking that he's a hippocrite, because no one keeps their iD on themat all times. When's the last time you took your ID with you into the shower or bed? And anyway, in an earlier conversation with the lady, I already explained that my wallet was the only place I could keep my ID wihtout it getting damaged.
It was clear to me he wanted to argue and I didn't, since it was pointless. How's any of this going to get the job done? So I finally (politely) shut him up and eventually get back into my room.
Seems like everone wants to argue with me, and I haven't purposefully pushed any of their buttons! Geez!
