I have to say, it's completely Cheeseball, but most of the time qualifies as a guilty pleasure. I adore Christopher Eccleston, though I think the actress playing Rose isn't as strong an actress as was needed for the part. He, however, even in his moments of over-acting, made up for it.
It was a quirky series. I have to say, though, I was sold on the chemistry between the two actors. I have a whole theory about that kiss between them (the characters) and what it meant for each person... because it's just beautiful. I'm about to go to bed, and that's the last thing I want to see is the kiss and its immediate aftermath. No, I'm not obsessed with the gooey special effects of the time vortex flowing back into the TARDIS... It's about that moment when he bends down to touch her face, loving her openly for the first time. I mean, they've flirted and teased and he's been jealous and vis versa... but in this moment, he just loves her.
He's known for a long time that they had a connection, and they've both spotted it, but she still loosely carried a torch for Mickey, and the Doctor was still keeping a bit of distance... But in those final few episodes, it all comes together. When she's without him, it kills her... and when he realizes she's willing to give up her homeland, her people, and her life to save him... He realizes she loves him. It's not all flirtations and mock jealousy... It's real. There really is this amazing connection between the two of them, this love, and he finally lets go. After that kiss, when he's touching her face, it's the first time he really just loves her without boundaries. It's beautiful.
Yes, it's a cheesy, cheesy show. It's goofy and has some really crazy special effects... But it's a guilty pleasure I can live with... Not ready to give 10 a chance. I'm too much a fan of 9!! :)
