... technically stealing if you only pay one cent for an item that was marked on sale for 2.99? (that's in US dollars)
So here's the story. I go down to Eckerdx (hmmm that doesn't look right....) on chestnut street, with a total of six dollars (which is all I had), hoping to buy some anti-acid tablets and a notebook. I get to the store and first look at the notebooks. Hmmm not good, 2.99 for a single subject notebook and that was the sale price. (yeah notebooks are expensive there I guess). Head over to where the anti-acids are, hmmm not too bad, I can get a pack of extra strength rolaids for 1.99. Grab the rolaids, head over to where the notebooks, and pick up the 2.99 notegbook, and then go to the nearest cash register expecting to pay 4.98 plus sales tax. The cashier rings up the rolaids and I can see 1.99 show up on the screen. She then rings up the notebook. 5 cents shows up on the screen.
Cashier: That will be 2.04
Me (being slightly slow and also fulfilling my tendency to be honest in my dealings): Are you sure that's correct?
Cashier: Yeah, it says it's on sale. (I guess it doesn't pay to pay your employees minimum wage...)
Me: Um ok.
I then fork over a five dollar bill. The cashier takes 4 pennies off the top of the cash register and puts them in it, and then hands me back 3 dollars.
So basically I ended up paying 2 dollars for two items that should have cost over 5 dollars. Wow, maybe I should use my remaining four dollars to buy a lottery ticket....
