There was a big "Wal-mart" scanda a couple of years ago. Walmart hired local teens for the stores to run the cash registers. Well when their "friends" came in, specificly the electronics section, The "friend" would bring a pack of gum and a gameing system or something expensive to their friends register. The teen cashier would ring up the gum twice and run the expensive item over the security thing to deactivate any security tags. They charged their friend for two packs of gum. This went on suprizingly for a couple of years before someone snitched. When it was discovered what their cheap help was doing, the total amount lost was in the millions.
For a few years after that many buisness owners didn't hire many teens from the schools from our area for retail stuff.
I think that's when they started to have the "greeter" people that check recipts at the door now. Whenever you get a big/expensive item someone makes sure it was rung up.
