And I think that the place for religious explanations for things is in a religion, philosophy, or anthropology class.
It is very important that we do not deny anyone, including Christians, their right to worship as they choose. But school isn't church. The way I see it, public high-school biology should be reserved for the things that can be observed, and hypotheses and theories based on observation. Theories based on the presence of a designer for whom there is no direct observable evidence should not be included. If someday there were observable evidence of a designer, and many secular, unbiased, or perhaps even atheist scientists agreed that the universe was designed, then by all means, talk about it in biology class. But until then, let's leave it for sociology class.
And I still don't see why the Intelligent Designer couldn't use evolution to achieve the results He wants. Just because someone designs something doesn't mean they create it perfectly whole and complete. I mean, a baker has a recipe, but they still have to put it in the oven and let it bake for a while. Maybe God mixed all the ingredients just right so that as everything changes and evolves over time, it ends up exactly how He wants it.
