I didn't hear any mentions of religion historically until my third year of college (university for those of you who are foreign). And while I see the point that you can't put the Christian beliefs under a microscope, much of science is hypothesis and theory, too. What really becomes irksome is when teachers start teaching these theories as fact, and there is no counterbalance.
If there were classes offered in school where students could learn about alternative origin stories, that would be wonderful... Unfortunately, such options do not exist in most public schools, or even some private schools (I've done both... public school kindergarten, private school 1-4, homeschooled 5, public school (middle) 6-8, then public high school in one state (9-10), and then another (11-12))...
If they had courses available to students who wanted to learn more about their faith or other origins, if Christian students could still take biology, but maybe also have an option to take an alternative course the weeks big bang theory and evolution were being discussed, that could seem all right to me.
I mean, it's just like when students are required to take sex ed in middle school... you can take the first version, the version with fewer boundaries, or not take any at all, so long as your parent signs off on it. And it's just a few weeks taken out of your gym schedule...
Don't know if I'm making any sense as I'm not feeling well... but there need to be options at the very least, and there aren't.
