What really becomes irksome is when teachers start teaching these theories as fact, and there is no counterbalance.

There are so many times I've seen things like "the Universe was created in the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago" or "life on Earth several hundred million years ago was mainly unicellular." Those types of things are stated as hard facts, when no one has conclusively, without a doubt, proved any of it.
Someone should really invent a time machine, go to the past, and find out what actually happened. And take a video camera, because anyone can make up stories. Heck, there should be a whole group in the time machine, of varying beliefs. Even take someone who doesn't believe the Holocaust happened. Take every extremist. Heck, if you take every extremist, send them on a time travel, and they end up never returning, the world would be better off. :-P
