Sites getting smart to the internet's use of adblock does unfortunately mean that some will intentionally try to disrupt functionality for those who use it. As long as it's minor functionality stuff, as you seem to describe for Youtube, then I'd say it's a price you pay for trying to circumvent their layout in other ways.
Whereas a page that made the rounds a while ago was most certainly using the flamethrower to light a candle approach - barring anybody using Firefox from viewing the website because he disagreed with adblock. (I only vaguely recall this story now, but I think I've got everything right there.)
