I do something like that too. Cuz of the shattered collarbone, I can't really steer with the left arm for long periods of time, it hurts to keep it up. So when the right arm gets tired, I use the left knee to press the left hand up to the steering wheel.
Of course I do drive a manual transmission car, so that only works on highways - on other roads I need the left leg for the transmission pedal and the right hand for the transmission poke, so I have to steer with the left arm whether I want to or not.
