Porsche 911 Block IdentificationThe serial nubmer is stamped on the vertical surface the type nubmer can be found on the horizontal surface: I think the nubmer you've found is the engine serial nubmer look on the flat portion (as pictured above) for the type and we can investigate further.On Porsche 911 (and others) engines there are 2 nubmers which can help identify 911 engines – the two nubmers are found on the passenger (right) side of the fan duct assembly the engine serial nubmer which from '69 '81 was 7 nubmer starting with 6xxxxxxFrom 1982 on, it was 8 digits long adding a letter in the third position 6.x…..before 69 it looks like the nubmers might have only been 6 digits long (not confirmed as yet.)the other nubmers will be engine type which will be in the format 901/xx or 911/xx or 930/xx or M64/xx
