Silly superstitions and barmy beliefs
Got a silly superstition or barmy beleif that you follow. You know, soething that you KNOW has absolutely no effect on reality but you also KNOW that if you don't do it or follow the procedure YOUR UNIVERSE WILL END!!! - and all sorts of bad things will happen to you.

allow me to give an example... yes it's stupid but it's happened far to many times to me for this not to be true in my case

Everytime I get something new, something that is a luxury or self indulgence for me, something which is for my pleasure and feel-good-about-myself-ness, then something bad will happen to ruin my day. And the level of the bad is directly proportional to the cost or expense of the item

So, if I buy an ice cream for myself, thwn the wife my chew my ass over not doing the dishes, or picking up my clothes or some such

I built a house a few years ago and so spent $160 000 - and had a psycho neighbour cause hassles for 3 YEARS which ultimately ended up in court costing me another $1000 or so (cost him a lot more at least)

Last week, I got a new watch for my birthday (actually b/day is June 15th next week - but it was on sale) An expensive watch too, ($700) to celebrate my impending 40th of age (oooooooooolllddd....) - an then yesterday I had a totally out of the blue argument with another teacher at work (started by him btw) in front of the kids in my class as well (it was a politely but coldly professional kind of argument in front of the kids but after class at recess back in the office it blew up) over a totally minor issue...

Now at least he got hauled over the coals for it and had to apologise to me, but it still put a dark cloud over my entire day.

The thing was I expected it - sort of. Because of the watch... I knew something shit was going to happen but with this superstition I can never tell what it will be - just that it will happen.

so there ya go. Totally irational but a TRUE-ISM of the universe none-the-less - at least to me.

So, anyone else got anything... or am I just totally mad and ready for the white padded cell?..?

cheers
Sean
