Remember the tsunami? That was caused by an Earthquake that certainly presented a danger to a lot more than just those who lived in the immediate area. .;-)
Also, the worldwide extinction of the dinasaurs might have been caused by a massive volcanic eruption rather than a meteor. A big fracking volcanic eruption of course. :)
