Interesting how they tied two problems together.
They had the Eugenics Wars, which were supposed to have happened in the 90s, tied to the change in the Klingons.

I personally like how Greg Cox explains the Eugenics Wars in The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh. I also like that he brings Gary Seven and Rain Robinson into the picture, along with ties to Star Trek IV and "Little Green Men" (DS9).
