I don't know what sort of childhood LGM had; whether he came from a well off family or not... But for myself, I grow up in a poor family, neither need I grow up in a rich family, at one point my Dad didn't have a job for a while, and all we ate was potatoes. At that point if my parents were given a $1000, the first thing it would have gone to would have been food, rates, having the car serviced...whatever...
My first job after school was $10 an hour (18grand a year AUD, 8000 pounds a year), luckily i still lived at home at this point. My first job after leaving home was $16 an hour (30/13 grand a year). I know what its like to not live on much money.
My girlfriend is currently studying Nursing at uni, she has about 20 face hours a week, and is meant to spend about 15 hours of private study a week. Mean while aus-study payments aren't even enough to pay her rent, so she had to work (usually to the sacrifice of study)...she didn't get $1000
I think what Sean is getting so worked up about (its whats made me annoyed), is not that the government is spending/giving away our money. Its that they're just fishing with dynamite, throwing $10billion into a lake and hoping it hits some fish... Theres plenty of ways they could have used 10billion to boost the economy and help low income earners at the same time (while also not making the rest of us feel like they government are just throwing away our money), they were just too lazy to sit down for a minute and figure it out
I think the government does that all the time, if theres a problem thats just too hard to think about, they just throw some money at it like a ransom and hopes it goes away...
Who's going to clear away the bodies...that's what I want to know.
