on raisa's new dell laptop - for the second time mcrappy has stuffed up a refused to DL updates and to 'fix' the identified problems through their automagic 'fix' feature button.
the first time it did this the solution was to delete mcrappy and DL from their site again and reinstall - which had the effect of completely narfing up the registry and she lost hours at work the next day resetting all her work network setup and oracle stuff.
tonight it did it again - same issue that was 'solved' the first time
this time though i got onto their personal chat line direct to a techie of some sort (in India of course) - lovely person, but who just tried to follow their standard script tree and ask me to DL and reinstall like the first time.
I got rather blunt about that and said it wasn't a good idea IMO (or words to that effect) to which they bumped me up to a real techie who then said do this and that and magically after a restart of the 'puter initiated by them, all was well. It now has the latest version of the AV and database et c etc and they *assure* us that this issue will not happen again... *raises skeptical eyebrow* that's what they said last time!
and before you say anything dummy - Raisa's workplace doesn't allow them to run grisoft avg. It doesn't meet their security standards apparently....! (yeah right)
but a check of the internet and forums at mcrappy shows that this issue is all over the place and has been/is quite common. You'd think they'd be offering a better solution for it by now... I colour stuff...
