bleah.. been talking to lawyers...
Yah, so I had to take a day off work. No not because I'm in trouble for anything but because my daughter is having hassles over a redundancy payment from her former job...

You may remember how I said she was made Manager of the Cowan University Student Guild/Union back in April. Well after a lot of stress and hassle where the controlling/governing Senate of the guild (students) refused to listen to her in pretty much anything, she decided to quit.

However the local National Tertiary Employees Union told her to hold out for a bit and they negotiated a Redundancy payment instead. This meant instead of just getting $700 annual leave that she outstanding she is *supposed* to get $21 000!!! Not bad huh?

So the Student Guild had 28 days to pay up and guess what... they didn't...surprise, surprise there...NOT!!! Instead they sent a letter via their lawyers stating that supposedly Natasha has violated her employment contract through misbehaviour (what wasn't specified and bullshit anyway ), and had embarked on 'industrial sabotage' by deleting financial files (again total bullshit) - all of which means that they don't have to fork out a penny of course.

Now this is all a pack of lies because we can guess their real motivateion is to be able to employ a new person as "Manager". You see a Redundancy means that they have effectively said that the position is completely unnecessary to their operations, but of course it is, but being a redundancy they can't employ anyone new in the job without giving Natasha first bite at it. Which they won't want to do of course.

So, we've spent the afternoon at the lawyers and its going to cost an initial $1000 just to send nasty letters back and forth, and if it eventually goes to trial, assuming we can't negotiate an agreement beforehand, it may cost upto $14 000!!! That makes it uneconomical to pursue of course, but our lawyer says that it'll probably only go as far as pre-trial which'll be about $3000 all up...

anyway, just another example of the corrupt and abusive behaviour of the 2007 Cowan University Student Guild...your University fees put to good use once again!

bleah
