It's not only scientists not debating evolution. There are also scholarly Christians and Christian scholars and scholars of Judeo-Christian tradition who acknowledge that the theory of evolution and the belief that God created the universe are not contradictory to one another. As I read in one thoughtful article on the subject, "Science attempts to explain HOW things happen, while religion attempts to explain WHY things happen."
I don't see what all the fuss is about, and I never have. Those of us who believe in God believe in a God who uses processes to order creation. Evolution is just another process. As I see it, it's as silly to not believe in evolution on religious grounds as it would be not to believe in photosynthesis.
