Just not in a government capacity. The last two elections were about as close as could be. So that means, that for every person who supports the policies of the current government, there is another person who wants things to be different.
Personally, I would have loved to have one of the main people for the Kyoto proticol at the helm here, but instead, there is an administration that is taking a less world oriented view than I prefer.
However, there are many private, non-government sponsored organizations who do mobilize to respond to such things. I'm not sure if they would be included in any "offical totals of how much a country helped", especially since some of them operate internationally.
I understand that you are frustrated with my country. Honestly, I am too. I'm torn between a state that I love and a country that I am becoming less crazy about by the day. However, one common denominatior among all countries is that when a disaster strikes, people are traumatized. People respond with fear, sadness, and occasionally anger, and the feelings resonate within you for a longer time.
The reaction is universal, but since my country is so over-reported, the stories of loss are shown and repeated ad nauseum. If it seems like the stories are everywhere, it's because they are. People may talk about the liberal media bias. Personally, I think its a bit of a amero-centric media bias. Thank heavens for being able to access other news sources in the world via the internet.
