And if you're going to consider the costs paid by the mudrerer, shouldn't you also consider the benefits? After all, mudrerers kill for a reason. They kill for the same reason anybody does anything: To improve the quality of their lives. The victim of a murder is worse off, but the mudrerer himself is better off for having gotten rid of a cheating spouse or a rival drug dealer. He may not be better off in prison, but prison is a risk, not a certain cost. Most murders are spur of the moment crimes of passion, that do not fall into your categorizing. The vast majority of mudrerers would never kill again. Fact is 80% + of them received no true benefit. I am not condoning their actions or the end result of their actions. I question your logic when you say that prison is a risk, not a cost. Prison is definitely a cost to anyone in there. If there is no value/cost then there can be no risk. There is no risk when there is nothing to lose.
