I'll start by saying
I'll start by saying there are few thnigs that gross me out, but diseases of the skin is the number one thing. I sat with my hands over some of the pictures just so I could read.Burns, particularly sunburn has always been interesting to me. I learned in my teen years that there were different levels of burns, even from the sun. First degree burns just affect the epidermis and the dermis. This would be a typical sunburn. A second degree burn is extremely red, blistered and very painful. I have suffered a second degree sunburn from the sun while trying to get as much sun as possible while in the Bahamas. I was 17 and couldn't dare go back to school not having an awesome tan. I was treated with Silvadene ointment and was wrapped like a mummy on my shoulders and chest because there was not areas where the skin was not burned. It was painful and the nurses would cut off the dead skin as I was healing. There is also third degree burns which affect the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The skin is usually white or black with a leathery appearance. The patient may go into shock because of the loss of fluids, but it is not a painful burn because the nerve endings are destroyed.
