I have found alot of interesting info in this chteapr but the one that fascinated me the most was how the liver functions and how important this organ is. Just the idea of how it can store excess nutrients and things like glucose which is then turned into glucogen and saved until the bodies supply runs low. The liver also has two blood supplies one from the portal vein which delivers blood rich nutrients and the other from the hepatic artery which delivers oxygenated blood. So many things we do to our body can affect this organ such as alcohol use, certain medications or over use and tobacco use. I also was interested in learning that there are a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases that are out there. Some of them affect women more than men, such as celiac disease, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. Then there are others that affect men more than women such as stomach cancer. Most of the diseases carry a risk associated with types of diet while others have a risk associated with heredity. Stool has always been a gross subject to talk about but just finding out that stool can be such a telling sign of something that may be wrong or not was interesting. For most of the diseases of the digestive tract symptoms can be similar in charectoristics such a blood in stool (Melena) or diarrhea. But comparing them to other symptoms such as location of pain can help to pinpoint just where the problem lies.
