I've always been guarded, even here, because of my Mum having a Stalker and all that when I was young. We went through a lot of rough patches, and scares involving Bankruptcy, Social Services workers and the like. Mum wasn't doing anything wrong, for the record. Someone who was staying with us got pissy because Mum didn't want kids running around screaming at 6 in the morning after she'd gotten in from work at 4AM and she yelled at 'em ONCE.
I would agree that everything was spilled here more easily when the internet wasn't quite so accessible. But code is still accepted! One can still complain without being terribly obvious or naming names. For a long time, when I was pissed off at work I'd simply write 2+2=5 (Geek points to whoever gets that one).
And I think the way Social Media works is very sterile compared to what we were brought up in. It was messy and personal. Now, Facebook is a mess of other people's posts, and Twitter has so many sponsored this and thats it's driving me nutters. Don't get me started on all the YouTube advertising. It was inevitable, I suppose, that it would all have to be monetized, but I miss the days of clean, clear, easy communication for the nerds, the geeks, what you will.
Wow. I didn't mean to write all that. :) Old habits do die hard!
