So I?ve been itching for a game of mafia recently, and I?ve been over on another forum that plays them regularly, but they don?t have any games I can join... So I was thinking, maybe we could being a bit of activity to the old SB if we started up a game of mafia!
If we can get some good participation it could be good fun! Bring a little activity back to the board...
We?d need about 10 players, and you?ve really got to post at least once per game day (with interest we can decide if the game day should be an actual day, or maybe more like two actual days, whatever). I?ll post some links to the detailed rules etc, but here?s quick intro to what the hell I?m talking about, for those that don?t know what mafia is, or werewolf as it?s also known. It can be played in person with people setting around a room in the course of about 5 minutes, 20 minutes, depends how many people, if they chance on a win quickly, etc...in forum play it usually lasts somewhere around a week, that?s what I would be guessing here anyway, epic games can take a month, with a lot of players and complexity...
So anyway, there are two teams, the town and the mafia. There town represents the majority, this case 8 players, and the mafia obviously the minority. The aim of the game for the mafia is to make kills every game night until they?re the last ones standing, the aim for the town is to discuss and vote for the people they think are the mafia during the day, they then get lynched at the end of the day and are out of the game... Everyone finds would find out what character they are and what rule they?ve got, mafia being one role, another being a doctor who can attempt to save someone from being killed during the night, a cop that can investigate someone to find out if they?re innocent or guilty, there can be a couple of others as well. So it starts out with a night, mafia plan a kill, doc attempts a save, cop investigates. Day then starts and everyone finds out what character got killed and who was playing the character, then the day starts and everyone has to work out who to lynch before the night comes and all the night characters do their actions again!
So in this can I was thinking or styling the game around DS9, which I happen to be watching at the mo, so there would be the dominion (mafia) and Federation/Bajor (town) and obviously a cast of the main characters! So anyway have read of the Wikipedia entry for Mafia if you want more details, or this other forum lists the rules/roles quite well also, there?s a lot more rules/roles that can be added to make the game more complex etc...in this case it would be kept pretty simple, but I?ve thought up a few other special players to even out the sides a bit... If we get a game going I will moderate the game, I will post all the main posts of what happened during the night, talk to all the players that have night actions, make an initial post of what rules will be used in this game, etc...

Who's going to clear away the bodies...that's what I want to know.
