Frankly I didn't think it was *that* bad a storm but then my area probably only copped the edge of it.
It hit about 5.00pm ad the rain just dumped down. Our downpipe soakwells overflowed and started to flood the patio area (only about 4cm deep) but I just got the broom out and kept pushing the water towards the lawn at the back and after 10 minutes all was ok when the rain eased off.
But places further north of my house got the golfball sized hailstones etc and there were smashed windscreens and dented cars all over the place this morning on the drive into work. A bunch of traffic lights were out which didn't make driving too easy either.
About 7 schools were closed because of flooding or their ceilings fell in. I was holding my breath that mine (Lesmurdie SHS) would be one of them as we're up in the hills in a nice bush covered area so heaps of trees to be knocked over etc etc plus thw wind funnels up the slope of the hill... but NO! No damage at all! *curses!!! - shakes fist*
Biggest damage is that the slope near Kings Park (our version of central park) had a big mudslide and end up burying the bottom floors and carpark of some very expensive river-fronting apartments... but those people are rich enough to have more than one home to choose from so I doubt they're too hard done by...
Overnight we had a huge thunderstorm with fork-lightening etc etc and heaps of rain. My cat Kisa came inside and spent the night sleeping on our bed and then when the show was over at about4.30am went outside and got into a cat fight so she came back in again...! So none of us got much sleep at all
cheers
Sean
