My original statement stands though, sure the pureists will be upset (probably - it's their default setting and I mean don't we all love upset fanboys?) because it's not slow methodical and dull, this is defiantely style over substance for the newcommers, with enough in-jokes and references to keep the old school entertained and not too much tinkering with the established phaser cannon (snigger - weeeeeeeeell on some level anyway...) Seriously everyone liked it, even a person who has no interest in Trek whatsoever.
I think they stuck a particularly odd relationship in just so they could brandish it at the neigh-sayers and go: See how messed up we could have made it!? Now stop saying neigh and enjoy the bloody film!
