topgear is a british show about cars and car lovers. Intensely rev-heady but also just plain dumb fun and funny. They review the cars in a highly opinionated way and have been known to make or break car sales in the UK and Europe depending on their review of a certain model. They have a novelty story each week which has included driving to France... without using he Chunnel (so they convert a car into a boat and see how far they'd make it - they did it too!!), making a robin reliant into a space shuttle and actually launching it.. too bad the descent well, failed... and other such stuff.
We have the UK series here and are up to date, but since we missed all the past 7 or 8 years SBS is showing them during the off season as well and we're up to about 2003 pt 2. We also have a piss-weak Australian version that SBS bought but since they don't have the money or the range of vehicles in Australia its not as good.
Grand Designs is about UK-ians with more money than sense in some cases, who go about building their dream homes. Some are great, others are just stupid and it seems the poms wil build a 3 story, 5 bed, 3 bath house in something the size of a small backyard vegie patch given the chance...
