So, sorry for never getting up pics of the house. Truth be told, it's been raining here SO much lately we moved the move date and that moved everything else, so there's not as much of a rush, so I've been busy with other things. Namely? Play!!!
Firstly, being in this role is really forcing me to get in shape. I mean, I found out they want me onstage in lingerie. That means I've got to be TOP shape! So, I've been working my butt off, watching what I eat, and trying my best to get into a shape I don't feel embarrassed to have onstage. Hubby is being HILARIOUS. He's proud of me for going to the gym and excited I have a role, but doesn't exactly love the idea of the world getting to ogle me. He's being ENTIRELY good natured about it, being an actor himself, but he already hates when a guy flirts with me. :) I love my hubby so much!
Rehearsals have been going FANTASTICALLY. Someone dropped, so I got a second part. So, that expanded things a bit. I went from singing backstage on one song, onstage for three and my one little monologue to having much more to do!
Opening Number: Not only do I have a line calling me out (And boy is that a HILARIOUS story if you have the time), I'm right at the front of the stage for that number.
Grocery Store Number: I now have a cameo. They thought it'd be hilarious for one of the bag boys to freak out when a hooker came in the store. It's just a bit part in the background during the song, but it's kinda fun to have another part onstage in that role.
OffStage Un Mejor: I'm offstage singing for this number, but I still have to know it and be off-book soon.
Hooker Monologue: The socialite and I have our back and forth monologue.
Act I Final Song: I start it A Capella. I know! Isn't that cool? It's just me, and then two other girls take over the song, and then it's the whole chorus, but it's really, really awesome to have a solo!!
Act II Operator Scene: I'm one of the three Operators. I have to be off-book by Monday on that, and I'm ALMOST there, but still working on it.
Cleaning Women Backup: This was funny. There's one woman singing the main part and four of us backup singers. I got the highest part. After only one session with all of us, the musical director apparently realized that not only am I not bad at reading music, I also have a wide range. So, I'm up top on that song. So, there's four of us there for that.
Act II Finale: I'm the second voice you hear. First it's Marcus, who has a FANTASTIC voice. Then me. See, there's about 8 parts that start one at a time, and then it's the whole cast joining in, kinda like the ACT I finale... Still really awesome.
This is all off the top of my head. I WAS offstage for the Millworker song, but all the women got cut from that, so I think that's everything, though I'm not completely sure...
I've been to the gym the past two days in a row in addition to working out on the ball at home and with my weights at the office. Not kidding. I'm doing what I can to get this body of mine in tip top shape! Only one more month! Well, five weeks til we open, but I still want to BE there when we get there... not sorta kinda close... We'll be getting costumes soon for goodness sake! :)
It is strange being one of the only "Unknowns" in the cast. Most everyone else knows at least ONE person, and most knew the director before this. So, I came in at a disadvantage... Yet I not only got my cool little part and the backup part in the Cleaning Women to start off with, I got added another part when someone dropped.... Then I got a solo at the end of Act I... Then a Solo at the end of Act II... then a line at the top of Act I. Then I got added to another scene.
It's really quite exciting and infectious and fantastic. I forgot the joys of being in the theater. I really did. Sometimes I get sad and really miss what I did as a kid, but now that I'm in my first Community Theater experience I have to say, it's a RUSH! I can't wait until opening night... My first performance as a 25-year-old. (My BDay is the day before we open). Here's hoping it's memorable... and for positive reasons! :)
