What I found interesting in this cpthaer is the personality disorders, cluster A: Paranoid and schizoid; cluster B: antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic; and cluster C: avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive. Paranoid personality type is indifferent, suspicious, and hostile. Schizoid personality appear cold and isolated. Antisocial is callous disregard for others and munipulation of people for personal gratification. Borderline personality disorders are when there moods are unstable and characterized by crisis and anger alternating with depression. Histrionic personality is something I have never heard of and it is characterized by theatrical and exaggerated emotional behavior. Narcissistic personality has an exaggerated self-image and a tendency to think little of others. Avoidant personality types appear shy and timid, as if they have a social phobia. Dependent personality types have an extremely poor self-image. Lastly, obsessive compulsive types are dependable, meticulous, orderly, and intolerant of mistakes. Most people with personality disorders do not see a need for treatment. Secondary medical and psychiatric illnesses force persons to seek treatment. Second topic that caught my eye was suicide, according to the book it is almost always associated with mental illness. Some of the signs to watch out for are talk of death, giving away cherished possessions, and sudden shift in mood. Risks for suicide include substance abuse, previous suicide attempts, a family history of suicide, and impulsive or aggressive. Suicidal behavior occurs most often during divorce, sudden job loss, depression, incarceration, and chronic illness. Alaska has such high rates of suicide and i seen a great deal of it in my life. It is so devastating to everyone, I'm going to make a personal goal to be a part of preventing suicide.
