And when i say "economically prompted" i don't mean like the economical stimulus packages governments around the world are trying to get things rolling again with...
It seems the economic downturn has finally hit the oil price to the point of no return (not that we seem to see it all that much at the bowser)...
For those who don't know, i'm a Document Controller (records management type job), I work for a company called WorleyParsons, they do engineering design for a range of operation/construction folks, across a broad range of industry types...
The office I work in at the moment, is for an oil and gas exploration/production company called Oil Search. So with the dwindling oil price at the mo, they've decided to cut down on the number of oil projects they've got going on (i.e. anything they don't need to do, to keep their current facilities/wells operational)...thus the office which has around 30-40 WP people, will be cut to a team of (up to) 15...
The first 7-9 people have been given their marching orders (leaving next friday), with the next group to be going a few weeks later. Down-size to be completed by around May...
Don't know if i'll have a job in those 15 people yet or not... (meanwhile at the mo, me (and another part time document controller) are around a month behind in some areas of our work due to how busy its been since the lead up to Christmas)...
Who's going to clear away the bodies...that's what I want to know.
