Like a sexy yeti I can't really contribute to the mortgage conversation, not really being in a position to buy. (A few years ago my parents were very keen for me to buy, what with renting meaning throwing money into a black hole. I pointed out that the maximum possible mortgage I could get, and this was back when the banks were lending a LOT, would be about £50k. And that would be if I slept with the bank manager in quite a few exotic positions. And you know what £50k would have bought me? Half a one bedroom flat, if I could find one cheap enough. Suffice to say, I rent.)
