Only in my case, the money is going to prop up companies that are supposedly "too big to fail." Now we're about to bail out the Big 3 American automakers (which is really a UAW bailout) to the tune of a few billion $s.
Far too often government tries to fix a problem when government is the problem.
What do I mean by that?
Washington lawmakers, who have never set foot on an assembly line, telling them what cars to make and how have brought the American auto industry to where it is today. And now, government to the rescue again! Not to mention unions. The hourly cost to hire and employ a Big 3 autoworker is north of $70(US) when you factor in benefits as well as hourly pay. Not to mention all they dish out to workers who are no longer producing anything (pensioners, unemployed, etc.).
Government just needs to get out of the way rather than trying to fix all of the economy's problems.
I love what Ronald Reagan once said, "The ten scariest words in the English language are 'I'm from the Federal Government, and I'm here to help.'"
Just another American from across the ol' pond. :-)
