Well, following my FINALLY gaining tenure ('permanency' as well call it here with the Education Dept - after only 18 years of trying) I've just found out that as of the new school year in January I shall be transferring to Lesmurdie Senior High School (http://www.lesmurdie.wa.edu.au) Not that that place means much to any of you of course, but I suppose you could always google map it... or not... :P It's right out on the edge of the city though up in the hills to the east. In fact it's so far out on the edge that on one side of the road is the school and on the other nothing but bush as far as the eye can see! (see google maps/streetview for what I mean) At least it will make my "Sclerophyllous Woodland" excursion that is compulsory for the year 11's easy - just walk across the road and there you are!!! (sclerophyllous is the big fancy name for a native eucalypt tree...)
Now the last time I got forcibly moved by the edu dept was to Safety Bay SHS for a year in 2006 - which was a total shithole of a school very, very far away from where I live on the opposite side of the city. At least this time Lesmurdie is a much nicer school than that, though not as nice as where I am now... and only about another 15 minutes drive down the main highway that I drive down everyday now... so all up I'm not too upset. Basically there are some rougher edged schools in the surrounding area such as Kalamunda, Eastern Hills and Forrestfield but the "nice" kids who are a bit richer in the area go to Lesmurdie SHS...
I start there Jan 29th 2009 so I've got the rest of this term until Dec 19th at Como Sec College then the 6 week summer break to get used to the idea!
