It's pretty old news now. They've talked about doing it since book 4 actually, but finally confirmed they would be doing it for book 7 several months ago. There's lots of speculation of course about where the split will occur.
As long as they don't use this as a way to fit in more of the interminable camping than they otherwise would have. I'm really hoping they retain Yates for those last two films so he can bring his fabulous Power Of Montage to the camping.
