Dear Mr. [omitted],
I have received your Notice of Violation Inspection Report dated for July 22, 2008. Although I appreciate the job you do and the service you provide, I do not require anyone to tell me that I need to mow my lawn; I have one pair of reasonably functioning eyes and I see my lawn every day. The lack of care for my lawn is not due to negligence, but due to several factors.
First and foremost, I work a 12 hour nighttime shift. I sleep during the morning and am preparing for work during the afternoon. My work schedule is as such that I can’t even take the time to ask a neighbor for assistance.
Secondly, my financial situation is such that I am currently unable to afford lawn care services.
Finally, the tools I have for lawn care are currently inadequate. I have a manual mower, but its bulk makes it inadequate to trim the front lawn. I have a sickle, but the heat wave we have been experiencing is unsuitable for chopping up the lawn and even then a sickle is quite ineffective for such maintenance, as it would simply be more advantageous to just pull the grass from the ground. I have a weed eater, which I use for the lawn, but it requires a new part before it will become fully operational again. Over the past eight days—during the few days off that I am given—that my weed eater has been inoperable, I have been searching for a replacement part. I have now found that part and by the time you receive this letter, my lawn will have already been cared for.
In your Notice of Violation Inspection Report you inform me that I have within seven days to fix my discrepancy. While I find that quite reasonable, your presentation of a second notice two days later (and well within my seven day window of opportunity) informing me that I am responsible for the upkeep of my lawn is in bad taste and poor form, as the second notice solely exists to reiterate what was mentioned in the first notice. Had this second notice been presented along with the first notice its presence would have been reasonable. However, its presentation during the window of opportunity is completely unnecessary and not only serves to inform me of something that I already well know, but also to repeat what you had already notified me of just two days prior.
While I appreciate your concern, I do not appreciate your jumping the gun in this matter and I am supremely confident that your skill set is such that you are more than qualified to handle significantly larger concerns and do not need to tell someone, “Hey! Mow your lawn!” every few days.
Sincerely,
Robert Underwood
Homeowner
