Hey, just bringing back some old nostalgia that might actually predate the SB.
Remember TLE, Logic, and the N/T police? (I think they were the ones involved...)
aaanyway, what you described with AltGr sounds very similar to what I do with Compose (except that it's not limited to just the deadkeys combos).
[compose]["][o] = ö
[compose][^][1] = ¹
[compose][s][s] = ß
[compose][m][u] = µ (but not in GTK apps, which have their own hardcoded list of compose sequences rather than getting the list from X11 like everything else. [compose][/][u] works for them)
[compose][c][=] = €
[compose][c][/] = ¢
etc
And, yes, I do have Konqueror set to semi-automatic detection. Such things don't always work 100% though.
For instance, I just tested with Firefox, and for some reason it decided to use Western (Windows 1252) rather than Western (ISO-8859-1), which meant that *no one's* special chars showed up.
