Well, not really. I don't know the full details of Blackberry, but I'm certain Wizzard knows everything about this. But in general there's a computersystem that is connected to the internet and your phoneprovider. Let's label this company with the computersystem Company A.
Company A is the one that makes the bridge between your e-mail addresses and your mobile phone - this is what they call Blackberry. It's a piece of software that checks your e-mail address(es) and whenever a new message arrives, it copies the first lines of it to a text message and sends it to your cellphone.
Usually you get a login from company A with a username and password that you can use to tell the blackberry system which e-mail addresses need to be checked and what the passwords for them are.
But if you get a cheap plan that doesn't allow for outside addresses to be checked, then you may get an e-mail address with company A. Something like bigwilly@companya.com. This e-mail address is then associated with your cellphone.
When you are able to configure outside e-mail addresses, then you can simply give it your logins for all those e-mail addresses and it'll just work.
When you are not able to configure outside e-mail addresses (which I deduce from Muffy's story) then you're usually stuck with one e-mail address - usually the solution to getting other e-mail addresses to work is to have the e-mail server at work to forward a copy of every message to that e-mail address. That way company A will send the message to your cellphone.
Meep.
