Don't need much of a side trip to get to the Vatican of course ;0)
I'm jealous that you get to go to Pompeii. I went during the big European heatwave in 2003 which made it pretty unpleasant to walk around (ditto Rome) and I really want to go back, but it's a long way to go just for Pompeii. Naples is an experience I'm glad I've had, but not one I have any desire to have again ;0) Bit like Vegas.
Enjoy! And enjoy KL too, I think I'm right in saying my Dad likes KL - certainly he wasn't adverse to the idea of working out their for a couple of months (alas, they wanted him to do longer than he wanted to do and with bad timing).
