Personally, I use Gparted nowadays it has NTFS support, and I've not destroyed any of my partitions with it (yet :-) Also, to recover a lost (or embuggered) partition table, I've found CGSecurity TestDisk to be a lifesaver many times, personally and professionally. As you can also tell, I like FOSS :) -- Miguel.
