But since you've managed to get the job I've been struggling to get for 8 months now I tend to get distracted before I can reply ;0)
It's sounds like you're having a blast and if your regional newsroom is anything like as fun as mine was (and it sounds like it is) then it'll be fun. Just wait until the big stories start hitting :0D
I do feel sorry for you having a broadcast that actually features you though. We had one week of broadcasting from our newsroom (gallery was being refitted) and it was a really annoying time to be on the switchboard. I once took a call from ITN (the people who made our partner national news) during broadcast:
"I'd like to speak to [News Editor] please"
"I'm afraid he's unavailable now as we're on air"
"Well he's the News Editor, he shouldn't be involved with the broadcast at all"
"Ah, yes, sorry. We're broadcasting from our newsroom and he's sitting directly behind the presenter"
"Ah, ok. I'll call back later"
Glad you're having fun with it though. And your hours do sound pretty nice. I loved the fact that working in news meant there were always tvs on. Every desk had a tv (so that's 1 tv to 3-4 people, max) and they were generally tuned into non-news channels. Of course, daytime tv isn't that often worth watching :0P But when there was a big sport tournament on it was ace. Or when children's tv came on in the afternoons ;0) It was just accepted that as long as people were getting their work done, it didn't matter if you had something on.
(Haha, my captcha is "gnnnr" - that's the sound I make whilst trying to figure the bloody things out ;0)
(That's annoying! I hit store message and it took me back to the front page, with my message decidedly unstored. Good job I'd C&Ped it because I don't trust the captcha.)
