OK, so it's end of school year next Friday (Dec 8th - and then 6 weeks to color stuff and slack off - yay!) and its been confirmed that I'll NOT be at Safety Bay SHS for next year due to school enrolment numbers and subsequent staffing allocation formulas by the edu dept. (yay again... its been a *bleah* of a year what with the rotten year 9 class and the bugger-all resources and the 2x70 minute/75Km per day drive).
So that's the good news...
The bad news is that now I have 1 week to go until I'm officially unemployed so to speak. Its now up to the central staffing at the Edu Dept. to find me a job somewhere for next year. Yesterday the staffing guys apparently 'pushed-the-button' on their new you-beaut computer package that matches all the vacancies up to the skills/qualifications of registered staff, and so now I await the results!!!!
What makes it even more edgy for me is that I KNOW for certain (coz the Principal told me himself) that there is a 1 year contract vacancy at the school I was at last year (Como Sec College) and that they'd love to have me back. In the 'good ol' days' before this computer matching business, the Principals were able to exert some personal influence over which staff they got at which school but no longer it seems!
Now you'd think it would make perfect sense to place me back at Como coz I know the school, the kids, the staff, the programme, everything, having been there for the past 5 years. However the soulless computer won't care will it? So there's no guarrentee that what I see to be 'the bleeding obvious' will actually happen...
So here I sit for the next couple of days, anxiously awaiting the arbitrary decisions of the wise gnomes of silver city (our nickname for the edu dept here in Perth because the building is clad in silver sheet metal) and their computer packages...
Meanwhile I shall cross everything I can, throw buckets of salt over my shoulder, pray to all Gods small and large, and sacrifice small, cute furry animals in the hope that I can get back to the lovely school of Como Sec College!
