Stingray's aren't really lethal, when you are stung by them. The part of the body that's stung, swells up like a bee sting in overdrive. But the the place where he got stung was just sheer bad luck.
(I noticed that the Wikipedia entry on Stingrays is already altered to include Steve Irwin's death. They are fast)
