...a lot of those things would have global effects. Like if/when Yellowstone erupts again, the cloud of ash would more than likely affect global temperature. In fact, people in my neck of the woods would probably be fortunate enough to die instantly; the rest of you would have to suffer through the ice age.
And I'm sure if you took any random landmass you could find equally as many dangers, both natural and man-made. This is just another form of American egotism: "Lookit how much we suck! We suck so much more than you!"
