So, so true. And such a simple conpcet, but a hard one for entrepreneurs to grasp. I've worked with many start-ups through the business planning and investor seeking stage and am always shocked at how difficult they find analyzing their competition. Often times I think it comes down to ego. They're so excited about their idea that they can't believe someone else has already thought of it (in some form or fashion) or that it hasn't been developed for a good reason. It can be hard to convince the excited entrepreneur that highlighting competitors, and their weaknesses, will be more impressive to investors and will be more helpful to the company in a business plan than saying no one else has thought of this.
