America is currently America is currently cahugt in a vicious cycle driven by fear and paranoia and has been for a number of years now. We've basically become a nation of strangers where fewer and fewer people know their neighbors or really know their friends, much less trust them. If I were to couch this situation in the language of Hollywood, I'd say don't look for a happy ending here.
