Another Believer, I'
Another Believer, I've long thought that there's sionthmeg about the Abrahamic religions that is really conducive to amazingly sadistic theological views and absolute, chiropteran-droppings lunacy. I don't think it's inherent to the religions, as some critics do; but it's tied up in the religious DNA somehow. William Dalton: But Rev. Graham would say today, as he did throughout the years of his ministry, and as I would say, that God hates sin, that anyone stained by sin cannot enter into the peace of God and is condemned to Hell (total estrangement from God) for eternity, and that the only remedy for the stain of sin is to be washed in the Blood of the Lamb – Jesus Christ. And yes, this is the Gospel of Love. If one sees a friend heedlessly rushing into a building one knows is about to explode into flames, one will take any steps necessary to stop them. Even rough treatment in that instance is not an act of hate, but of love. But if I were the one that made the building, and set it on fire, and induced my friend to run in to begin with (or at least if I knew he'd be prone to do so and arranged for the fire to start as he was walking by), how is that loving? God created the universe, made humans with the full foreknowledge of what they'd do, and set a policy, if you will, of eternal damnation for those who did not repent of sins. Therefore, He is still responsible for the situation. Of course, classical TULIP Calvinism is cool with that God eternally predestined some (very few) to salvation in order to manifest His mercy, and some (the vast majority) to damnation in order to manifest his justice. No free will involved. I don't know if, as a Presbyterian, you subscribe to that form of Calvinist thought (though it was originally characteristic of Presbyterianism); but I've always thought that the TULIP Calvinist God is demonic, a monstrosity. I guess one can call that the Gospel of Love ; but in that case all I can do is emulate I igo Montoya and say, I do not think that word [love] means what you think it means.
