Ok, now I know why Constantinope fell to the siege of 1453 they didn't have Gandalf!Seriously though, I'm a big fan of Byzantine hirosty and the connection between Byzantium and Gondor might explain why. I'm not sure whether the best equivalent to the Kin-strife is the Latin invasion or the Monophysite dispute though.
