What phone do you own? On Nexus One (and maybe on Moto Droid, but I'm not sure) you can create porifle and setup Wi-Fi on first and than Airplan On. When you activate this porifle it will turn off phone, but will keep wi-fi on. This, however, does not work on android 1.5 and 1.6 versionsThe porifle activated latest will win settings. I.e. it's ok to have default with ring on, once time comes your night porifle will mute ringer and will restore it back in the morning. You may read this article to better understand porifles concept
