Whilst I think that a study of this sort is very valuable my view is that pepoles experiences will drive their opinions. Someone who is a victim of some of the vicious crime will probably not come back ever even if it means a very low standard of living where they are. Conversely people who found emigration very difficult may find that moving back has been highly advantageous. My family left for my career purposes with no intention of leaving permanently and quite frankly I just miss home 2 years on. So I am not sure that the answers will be very objective. Hopefully the study will ask about financial matters, family, jobs etc to get as objective response as possible.
