I work in “the system†and some of the siuttaions out there are indeed difficult and hard to explain in a post like this. The fact of the matter is that “relatives, friends, clergy persons and neighbours†do pitch in to help families like this but what happens after they get burnt out? If you think things were any better in the old days you’re wrong. Families in the old days used to tie their children to their beds sometimes for days at a time, with sheets soiled in their urine, and feces, because parents could not handle their children’s behaviour due to whatever condition the children was diagnosed with. But who really cares as long as the decision makers don’t have to deal with this issue in their personal lives they are more inclined to cut services and leave the rest of us to tie our kids to the bed frame again, just like we did in the good old days. It’s not if services are “perfect†folks you need to ask if they are even adequate.
